Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 3rd ICPCN Conference on Children’s Palliative Care

Inspiration, Innovation, Integration

WELCOME FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIR

I would like to welcome you all to the 3rd ICPCN International Conference on Children’s Palliative Care.

The theme for our conference is “Inspiration, Innovation, Integration” and we are looking forward to an information programme with papers that will both inspire us, demonstrate innovation along with the integration of Children’s palliative care into our health care systems.

We had an amazing and inspiring conference in Buenos Aires in 2016, with 410 participants from 49 countries and we look forward to welcoming you all to Durban. There have been many developments in children’s palliative care over the past few years, some of us have been working in the field for many years, others are just starting out and we hope that this conference will be for all of you. It will be a great opportunity to learn from each other and to meet old friends and make new friends. Durban has never before been host to these many ‘greats’ in the world of children’s palliative care and it is hoped that many of you will take the opportunity to attend the conference.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA), PatchSA, and Umduduzi – Hospice Care for Children in bringing you this conference. It will be a great opportunity to showcase your work and innovations in children’s palliative care and to hear about the inspiring work of our partners in South Africa. We are also bringing together an exciting range of plenary speakers who will share innovations, experiences of integration and inspire us to press on in our developments of children’s palliative care.

Abstract submission will open by the end of July 2017 and we encourage you all to submit your abstracts to the conference – without you there will be no conference, so we look forward to receiving your submissions. In order to give everyone time to plan to attend the conference and to raise funds to do so, we will let you know by the beginning of February whether your abstract has been accepted for presentation, and we hope to have a draft programme available by then.

You will love Durban – one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations. It is known for its stunning coastline of sun-kissed beaches and subtropical climate, situated on the eastern seaboard of Africa, and our conference will be held on the seafront with stunning views of the beach. The City is built around one of the busiest ports in Africa and is home to a vibrant blend of people from numerous and diverse cultures. It is also a good hub from which to explore South Africa further so make sure you book some holiday whilst attending the conference.

We look forward to seeing you there and helping you to experience a warm African welcome in Durban.
